How this website handles your data.

Thank you for your visit. Protecting your data matters to me. Here I explain which personal data are processed when you visit this website, for what purpose and on what legal basis.

Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Each time a page is accessed, the server automatically stores technical information in log files: your IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and operating system.

This is necessary to deliver the website securely and without errors. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in secure and stable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). IONOS deletes the log files automatically after a short period.

Encryption

This website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise it by “https://” and the padlock symbol in your browser’s address bar. This means that data you transmit cannot be read by third parties.

Fonts

The font used on this website (Yantramanav) is stored on my own server. No connection to Google Fonts or any other font provider is made.

Cookies and browser storage

This website does not set any cookies. It only stores two small entries in your browser’s storage (localStorage), and only when you make a choice yourself:

  • einwilligung-v1: your choice in the notice about cookies and external content, so that you are not asked again on every visit. Consent is stored for 12 months, a refusal for 6 months.
  • artnews-fenster-zu: that you have closed the Art News notice window, so that it does not appear again for 30 days.

These entries are strictly necessary for the function you requested (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). They remain on your device and are not transmitted to me. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings.

I currently do not use any analytics or advertising services (such as Google Analytics or a Meta pixel). Should this change, it will only happen with your consent, and this policy will be updated beforehand. You can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

Contact by email or phone

If you write to me or call me, for example via the “Enquire about this work” button, I process your details (name, email address or phone number, your message) in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is the initiation or performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or my legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). I delete the data when they are no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.

“Art News” newsletter via Mailchimp

If you subscribe to Art News, your email address is transmitted to the mailing service Mailchimp, provided by Intuit Inc. (Mailchimp), 2700 Coast Avenue, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. A connection to Mailchimp is only made when you click “Subscribe”. Before that, this website does not load anything from Mailchimp.

I use the double opt-in procedure: you first receive an email in which you confirm your subscription. Only then are you added to the list. Your email address and the time and IP address of subscription and confirmation are stored so that the subscription can be proven. Mailchimp can also evaluate whether a newsletter was opened and which links were clicked.

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time – via the unsubscribe link in every issue or by email to me. Your data will then be removed from the mailing list. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process. Mailchimp is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses also apply. More: Intuit Mailchimp privacy statement.

Should Mailchimp require a security check, the subscription opens on a Mailchimp page. Google reCAPTCHA may be used there; the privacy notices of Mailchimp and Google apply.

YouTube videos

On some pages I show videos from my YouTube channel, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. No connection to YouTube is made when you open my pages; the preview image is served from my own server. Only when you play a video and agree is it loaded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).

Data are then transferred to YouTube/Google, including your IP address, the page visited and technical information about your device, possibly also to the USA (basis: EU-US Data Privacy Framework). If you are logged in to YouTube, it may link the view to your account. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). If you choose “Always allow”, this is stored in your browser; you can withdraw it at any time via “Cookie settings”. More: Google privacy policy.

Links to Instagram and YouTube

The Instagram and YouTube icons are simple links. No data are transferred to these services unless you click on them. After clicking, the privacy policies of Meta (Instagram) or Google (YouTube) apply.

Your rights

You have the right at any time to access your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). An informal message to me is sufficient.

Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): where I process your data on the basis of my legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. I will then no longer process the data unless there are compelling legitimate grounds or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for me is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany, www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.
