KLANG_KÖRPER_KUNST – performance with Markus Born and Piotr Tomczyk

In a performance we explore the resonance space of sculptural and biological bodies with an interactive sound installation and dance.

Markus Born and Stefanie Welk explore how sculptural works in steel turn into fascinating sounding bodies. When the metal artworks are set vibrating, the vibrations travel through many metres of welded steel wire. With the help of modern electronic equipment these vibrations in the metal are made audible, and sounds and interferences unfold that seem archaic on the one hand and futuristic on the other, beyond music and melody.

The performance artist Piotr Tomczyk takes up the impulses arising from the space of sound and feeds them back into the resonance space as moving energy.

KLANGRAUM

Piano strings emerge from the opened grand piano like visible paths of sound. What normally remains hidden inside the soundboard steps out into space: vibration, tension, movement. For this installation at Heidelberg University, Stefanie Welk let strings float in the air; they overlap, bundle and open up again – like sine waves, like a drawing made of sound in the air. The piano remains origin and store, but the sound becomes a spatial line, an energetic trace.

Created in 2007, the installation makes invisible forces visible. Between materiality and immateriality, a field of fragile order, movement and light emerges.
