Works
Since 1992 Stefanie Welk has worked mainly with metal and wire, transforming it into sculptural form by bending, knotting and welding.
Between space and matter
Her figures are clearly contoured and at the same time dissolve into fields of energy.
From her engagement with the depiction of the human being, her work expanded into an exploration of the tension between human beings and space – social as well as metaphorical space, characterised by movement and dynamics, by force fields and lines of energy.
Metal thus becomes a medium permeable to light and air. Owing to their filigree character, many of the sculptures appear like drawings in space, describing their own volume and the surrounding field.
